KEFI was founded in 2006 by Harry Anagnostaras-Adams and a team of Australian mine-builders, spun out from Atalaya Mining plc alongside sister company Venus Minerals.
Since 2008, the team has focused on the Arabian-Nubian Shield, spending approximately US$100 million on exploration and studies to build the portfolio of projects KEFI has developed across Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia today. From its establishment in 2006 through to the construction of Tulu Kapi, KEFI’s journey has been defined by disciplined development and long-term regional commitment.

Construction begins at Tulu Kapi. KEFI marked the formal start of construction at Tulu Kapi with a groundbreaking ceremony. Attended by Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, Dr Abiy Ahmed, and the Oromia Region’s President, Shimelis Abdisa.
2020
Renamed KEFI Gold and Copper KEFI Minerals plc changed its name to KEFI Gold and Copper plc, reflecting its broadened focus on both metals across its project pipeline.
Saudi Arabia: GMCO joint venture Through Gold and Minerals Company (GMCO), KEFI’s joint venture with Saudi partner ARTAR, the team has built one of the largest exploration portfolios in the Kingdom. KEFI’s shareholding in GMCO now stands at 15%, reflecting the scale GMCO has grown to independently as the joint venture’s project pipeline has expanded.
2013
Tulu Kapi acquired KEFI acquired 75% of the Tulu Kapi Gold Project in Ethiopia for £4.5 million, followed by the remaining 25% in September 2014. This became, and remains, KEFI’s flagship project.
2008
Arabian-Nubian Shield focus begins KEFI commenced exploration in Saudi Arabia, the start of what has become its primary geological focus given the Shield’s strong prospectivity for gold and copper.
2006
Listed on AIM KEFI Minerals launched as a £2.5 million IPO on London’s AIM market, spun off from Atalaya Mining plc. While Atalaya focused on copper production in Spain, KEFI set out to prospect in frontier markets.
